Owen Hall was news director of WMVA from December 1968 until his death in January 1990. My siblings and I are always pleased to hear from folks who remember him as a newsman or even as "Santa Claus" reading letters from local children. We knew him as a wonderful father and the greatest Granddad our kids could ask for. Owen Hall, son - 2009|

We didn't have money but we were so rich - we never had a moment that we did not know we were loved beyond measure. Their greatest legacy is that we, their children carry on the tradition of unconditional Love for family and friends.

I wanted to send you my thoughts regarding photo #649, a photo of Owen Hall who was news director for WMVA radio for many years:
I was born in 1972, so, in the mid to late 70's, I would send a letter to Santa Claus to be read on WMVA radio before Christmas. The experience of being a child during the Christmas season listening to Santa read my letter on the radio was magical. I cannot express with words what a wonderful vision I had in my mind while hearing Santa's voice reading my letter. I'm 40 years old now and every time I hear the classic Boston Pops Orchestra version of Sleigh Ride, which was the theme song played for the Letters to Santa segment back in the day, I instantly remember being that small child, huddled beside the radio. My memory of it has not dimmed. It fills me with warmth and just a touch of sorrow for what we have lost over the years. I know who the voice of Santa was. Owen Hall will always be part of a very special Christmas memory that I will always cherish. I can only wonder if he ever knew how much joy he gave?
