OPEN (FREE) COURSEWORK
MIT OPENCOURSEWAREMartinsville and Henry County have super bricks and mortar type educational resources. And here's another interesting approach available to anyone with internet access.

An MIT initiative called OpenCourseWare is making virtually all of the school's courses available online for free. You can view lecture notes, tests and video lectures. Plus you don't have to take a test. Literally your classroom is the world. Many teachers use the material as guides in their own classes. Top universities are finally joining the world of online education and mostly they are giving it away. MIT is the largest contributor but the idea is spreading and more than 100 universities including Johns Hopkins, Tufts and Notre Dame have joined a consortium of schools promoting the open source software idea.

There are drawbacks: you can't ask a question and you can't get a degree or credit, or a letter of recommendation. Look it over and learn something new! Here's the address of the MIT site: http://ocw.mit.edu
