There's
Papa Charlie Merriman and his boys, William, Buck and George. Growing up in Fieldale
meant you saw the boys every day. And growing up on Merriman Road meant you saw
them close up. Merriman Road was great. If you were bored from riding your bike
too much you could wander over across the street to Kate and William's and play
with their dog, Gypsy. Or you could coast down the hill on your 3 speed and visit
Bea and Buck. Sometimes we would start pedaling at the Kogertown Road and race
down 609, turn onto Merriman Road and sail by Bea and Buck's. It was quite a ride...1950's
style 'quite'. Bea ran a floral shop in her basement. They had no children and
maybe that's why they seemed so happy! A little farther out the street lived Papa
Charlie's daughter Lucy Merriman Shelton. Sometimes we visited Lucy but not as
much as William and Buck. And just next door lived George and Christine. Christine
taught school at Fieldale Elementary. Merriman Road was great.
